Speed Crackdown Starts Today

For the next two weeks starting today, troopers with the N.C. Highway Patrol will be cracking down on speeders on interstates and major four-lane highways across the state. Troopers will be using motorcycles, helicopters, marked and unmarked patrol vehicles in the No Need 2 Speed campaign, said Captain Everett Clendenin, a spokesman for the Highway Patrol. Speed is the leading cause of traffic fatalities and collisions in the state and Highway Patrol officials get numerous complaints about motorists traveling at dangerous speeds on the state's major highways, Clendenin also said.
