Woman Believes Man Stole Deer Camera Set Up to Catch HIm

A Wilkes woman says she believes a man that may be responsible for several break-ins near her home recently also stole the deer camera she set up to try and catch him. Martha Phelps is one of a group of people in Purlear that have suffered break-ins recently. She tells sheriff deputies she actually talked with the man she suspects, as he was walking along Acorn Drive Saturday evening. She described the man as wearing brown Carhardt bibbed overalls, a long-sleeve camo shirt, a camo hat, and brown boots. The man told her he was walking up to the mailboxes, but she thought he was acting funny, and didn't really believe him. He also told her he was looking for a job. The deer camera disappeared sometime overnight Saturday or early Sunday morning. Phelps says her encounter with the man was Saturday evening about 6. Deputies continue their investigation of this and the other cases they think the man may be involved in.
