Thefts Reported from U-Haul Place, New Wal-Mart Site

Wilkesboro police are investigating two thefts of fairly expensive items. The first happened sometime over the weekend, according to Bob Young, who arrived at his appliance shop Monday morning to find someone had backed up to a U-Haul trailer and taken off with it. The ID number of the trailer, which is valued at 5-thousand dollars, has been entered in the national crime database. Police have no suspects presently.

Sometime Sunday night or early Monday, a person went onto the construction site for the new Wal-Mart and into one of the construction trailers. There the thief carried off a hand held surveyor's GPS unit and its associated rover component, together worth 26-thousand dollars. The thief also took a TS-400 Quick Saw worth about 900-dollars, and a Poulan chain saw worth less than 200-dollars. The thief had forced the lock off the back door, according to the police report, but the broken lock could not be found on the construction site. Police continue their investigation of this incident, and report no suspects at this time.
