Unifi Virginia Closing to Bring More Work to Our Area

For once, the closure of a textile-based plant is bringing jobs to Wilkes and the area, rather than taking them away. Unifi has announced it will close its plant several ours up the road in Staunton, Virginia effective in September. According to the company, it is consolidating its operations in its plant in Yadkinville, to save overhead costs and reduce transportation fees. About 145 workers in the Shenandoah Valley will lose their jobs, but Unifi says many of them are being offered the option of moving to our area and working in Yadkinville. The plant currently employs hundreds of people living in Yadkin, Wilkes, Surry and Forsyth counties.
