Sheriffs deputies in two counties worked together late last month to investigate a kidnapping, and now one of the departments is releasing more details of what went on A release from the Davie County sheriff's office indicates what prompted the kidnapping that ended in Wilkes March 24 was a disagreement over drugs. 16-year old Lamont Dewaye Dewalt is charged as an adult with first-degree kidnapping, breaking and entering, and theft. A 24-year old Yadkinville woman, Karen Shore, was also arrested on a kidnapping charge.
Davie County Sheriff Andy Stokes said in the press release that Shore and Dewalt had gone to a home in Mocksville, barged in waving a gun, and threatened everyone inside before forcing Sheila Tevepaugh to go with them. Apparently her son owed the pair money for a previous drug deal. Shore and Dewalt stopped to try and make another drug transaction, but that was not completed . The pair eventually took Tevepaugh to a garage in rural Wilkes county, where she ultimately escaped. After leaving he in the garage, they went back to Yadkinville and started making demands that Tevepaugh's family either pay him the 160-dollars owed or bring her son to him. Either action, he said, would result in Tevepaugh being released. As Yadkinville authorities prepared to raid the house, they learned from Wilkes county that Tevepaugh had escaped from the garage. Officers arrested Dewalt and Shore without further incident.es
