A Wilkes woman ended up in jail following a series of events that led to her having to be shocked with a Taser in front of her children. 35-year old Tracy Lynn Perry first encountered a Wilkesboro police officer about 5:30 Saturday morning, alongside the road on Highway 421. She had run out of gas, she said, and a friend in the car had walked up the street to get fuel. But the gas can was still in the car. The officer gave her a ride to a nearby convenience store, where they learned the friend had gotten a ride home from someone else, after telling that person she and Perry had had an argument in the car.

The officer took Perry to her friend's apartment at Cub Creek, where she said she was staying to help out the person. He stopped at the far end of the parking lot to fill out paperwork after he dropped her off. A short time later, he saw Perry and a woman arguing, and after the argument escalated to where both came out of the apartment claiming the other had hit them, he told Perry she needed to leave immediately and go home.

But she was uncooperative, and as the disturbance escalated to the point that Perry tried to get into another friend's car and speed out of the parking lot. Minutes later she sped back down Industrial Drive, her kids in the car, and screeched to a stop just before hitting the two patrol cars now at the complex. After repeatedly ignoring the officer's orders to get out of the car, Perry allegedly scuffled with the officer as he tried to arrest her, hanging onto the steering wheel and other items inside the car so he could not pull her out. At one point he drew his Taser, but holstered it when one of the children climbed on Perry, for fear of hitting the child. The scuffle continued for several minutes, and Perry sped off, nearly hitting several parked cars, the officer in pursuit. She was stopped a short distance down the road and the whole cycle repeated...this time with the officer able to use the Taser a couple of times, but it having no effect. WIth the help of another officer who removed the kids from the car, he was finally able to get Perry under control and in custody. The children ended up staying with one of the other adults at the complex while Perry was carted off to jail, where she was booked on a 1-thousand dollar bond, charged with resisting arrest and multiple other charges.
