Combs, Long-time Public Servant, Dies

Wilkes County has lost a long-time public servant. C-C "Jack" Combs of North Wilkesboro, passed away yesterday. Combs served 16 years as a county commissioner, and was the owner of East Side cars, and part-owner of North Wilkesboro Speedway. He was a charter member of the Speedway Ruritan Club, and served on numerous boards including the county health department and social service department boards.



Mr. Combs was born in 1926 in Wilkes County, to Bruce Levi and Celia Williams Combs. He was a member of Fishing Creek Arbor Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and elder, along with serving over a decade as Sunday School Director and for a number of years as an Adult Sunday School teacher. He also served on numerous church committees.



He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Zell Williams Combs, one son and three daughters, their spouses; one brother, six grand children and six great grandchildren. His family will receive visitors tomorrow evening from 6 to 8 pm. Funeral Service is Saturday at 2 at Fishing Creek Arbor Church, the Rev. David Wellborn and the Rev. Sherill Wilson officiating. The family requests memorials to the church.
