No Drivers’ License Without Social Security Number

Anyone who wants to get a driver’s license in Wilkes County will now have to first prove they’re a citizen. The move was designed to cut down on the amount of illegal immigrants who routinely receive drivers’ licenses each year. The only exception to the law is for anyone who is currently in the country on a valid visa which has been issued by the Department of Homeland Security. 3WC Healthwatch: The Problem With Melon
It turns out eating ice cold watermelon could actually be bad for you, as we explain in today’s 3WC Healthwatch. A recent study was performed by scientists with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, finding that watermelon kept at room temperature is healthier than if it’s ice cold. The report, which was released on Wednesday on the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, found that watermelon stored at temperatures below 70 degrees loose nutrients faster. For 14 days, several types of watermelon were stored at different temperatures. Those kept at 70 degrees Fahrenheit had 40% more lycopene, an antioxidant which can help to guard against heart disease. In addition, those stored at room temperatures had at least 50% and in some cases up to 139% more beta carotene, which the body uses to make Vitamin A. It turns out that the melons continue to produce lycopene and beta carotene for several days after they’ve been picked. But once they’re stored in a chilly environment, that nutrient production slows and eventually stops much quicker.
